WeatherXM and SwissBorg partnered up to send 2,270 weather stations to the underserved areas of the world. Here is how we made it happen with the help of SwissBorg users, our deployment partners and local operators.
Deploying Weather Stations in the Low to Mid Income Countries
In the next few months, WeatherXM will deploy 2,270 weather stations in the Global South. This is an ambitious undertaking with the potential to make the WeatherXM Network an irreplaceable part of the global weather infrastructure, and at the same time improve the lives of people in underserved communities around the world.
How does it work?
WeatherXM’s recent partnership with SwissBorg allowed users to purchase weather station licenses, granting them $WXM rewards for 36 months. Participants received NFTs as proof of ownership for these licenses, which symbolize their direct role in expanding our global network.
The capital raised through this initiative was used to purchase weather stations that will be deployed by our partners in strategic regions. These deployments will have a significant impact by providing precise, hyperlocal weather data, improving forecasting for local communities, and expanding weather coverage in areas lacking proper infrastructure.

Status
We successfully closed Phase 1, which involved SwissBorg users purchasing station licenses and WeatherXM donating another weather station for each station bought, resulting in a 2 for 1 deal.
Currently, we are in the Phase 2 of the project, working closely with our partners to strategically deploy these stations across 19 countries. Each location was carefully chosen to address gaps in weather observations, ensuring these stations provide critical data where it’s needed most.
